  • Shrub Hill Station, Worcester, WikiMapper wrote 16 years ago:
Foregate Street is more centrally located. But who anyway leaves a train station with the hope of getting a beer? Most people will walk to the town centre, hire a taxi or drive their car out of the car park. Apart from being at risk of falling apart, the station is also at risk from closing. There are plans to build a station called 'Worcester Parkway' which would be served by Cross Country services and trains from London to Hereford. However, it would prove a lot easier just to redirect trains on the Cross Country route back to Shrub Hill. Considering how prominent Worcester is on the M5 route, it would make a lot of sense to let CrossCountry trains stop at it! In addition, it would be cheaper to renovate Shrub Hill than to close it and build a new one.

Porcelain is one of the things that Worcester is famous for and there is plenty to do at the Royal Worcester Porcelain Factory. Guided tours are available to see how figurines and various plates, mugs etc. are made and painted with their intricate designs. There is also a museum with an audio tour. Kids are not forgotten, there is a Fascinating Facts Trail to explore and the chance to paint a plate. The Best Ware Shop sells the full Royal Worcester range with Seconds and Clearance shops for those of us who haven’t got a King’s ransom to spend.

Shrub Hill station is not in a very convenient location, there's not even a pub nearby!! If you are going to Worcester by train then Foregate St is the better station.
  • Worcester Cathedral, Clive Thompson (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
The current building dates back to the 11th Century although the site was a place of worship around 400 years beforehand. It holds the tomb of King John, Prince Arthur’s Chantry and a 12th Century Chapter House that looks as if it has had some restoration work done recently. There is also St Wulfstan’s Crypt and some medieval cloisters with beautiful gardens (when it’s not raining as it was when I was there).
  • Worcester Racecourse , Clive Thompson (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Worcester racecourse hosts around 20 horse race meetings a year with some themed days, ladies day, musical themes, kids fun days etc. Centre course and Grandstand enclosures are £6 and £12 respectively but I would advise paying a bit extra £18 for a Premier Enclosure ticket especially if the weather is not too good. The Grandstand bar gets very crowded, you cannot see the racing from there and there is little other cover if it is raining. It is quite a picturesque course right next to the River Severn and a good location only 15-20 minutes walk from the city Centre. And if you back a couple of winners like I did it’s a good day out.
